Being a general contractor for over 30+ years, I have seen how the industry has become more competitive and how the price of material just continues to escalate uncontrollably. Looking for ways to create several mini me in an effort to stay competitive in a down turned real estate market. So I set out to find a software that will automate the following tasks: scheduling, provide reporting to clients and provide estimates for clients. Providing estimates is one of the most mundane and unprofitable aspects of the business if not managed correctly. There are so many contractors out there that provide these services for free which makes it virtually impossible to charge for such services but which limits one in being able to take jobs that requires more than 1 hour of travel time to get to. Having a software that you can keep up to date cost of supplies and be able to combine that with the job that the client wants which enables you to provide the estimate via electronic means and allow the client to shop around until they are sure they want your services is a better use of your time. The other task that can be time consuming that is best automated for several reasons is the tracking of the job progress. There is a chronological way to get a job completed that will maximize quality and service while minimizing the time spent completing the work. A good software will allow you to plan this thoroughly and keep the client in the loop electronically at all times without having to invest too much time on the phone. This will keep most clients happy that progress is taking place and that they have some sort of a handle of what is taking place giving them a sense of control which will free you from having to constantly be on the phone with them�again, time management. One of the other daunting tasks about our business is staying on top of all the inspections you must be prepared for. Managing several projects at a time, I have on occasion forgotten several inspections and struggled at the last minute to complete a project or be there for inspection.
